F.A.Q's

1.     What makes Mister Beer Bottle Brew different than most home-brew kits?

Most home-brew kits are based on a dehydrated malt or liquid concentrated malt. You then add water, boil, ferment, sterilize bottles, etc. It seems like a lot of work with marginal results. Any real brewer or beer lover equates this to an orange juice made from crystals like Tang or a concentrated orange juice, versus freshly squeezed orange juice. The end result can’t possibly be very good.

Mister Beer Bottle Brew is craft-brewed, the same way all premium beers are made. Then, instead of fermenting it, we bottle it. After you buy it, you simply add our specially selected brewer’s yeast which triggers the fermentation in your home, right in the bottle.

10-12 days later, you’ll have the freshest tasting beer possible. It’s like a fresh baked loaf of bread versus day old bread. There really is no comparison.

2.      What makes Mister Beer Bottle Brew different than commercial beer?

The key to a great beer is high quality, all natural ingredients and freshness. Many commercial breweries reserve the best ingredients for their premium brands which tend to be much more expensive than their main brands. With Mister Beer Bottle Brew, every bottle contains only the finest ingredients we can source from around the world.

Freshness is something no commercial beer can ever control, due to the time it takes to go from the brewery, to the retail store, to your home. Often by the time you drink it, it’s at least a few weeks old, especially slower selling imports.

Mister Beer Bottle Brew is always fresh, as soon as you finish fermenting it in your home. So you control the freshness.

3.      Do I add the whole yeast pill, including the capsule, into the bottle?

Yes. You should add the whole pill into the bottle. The capsule shell is made of a safe vegetable compound and will fully dissolve within a few hours. The yeast is what triggers the fermentation, which converts the natural sugars from the barley and malt into alcohol and naturally carbonates your beer.

4.     How long does it take to finish/ferment my Mister Beer Bottle Brew?

The fermentation period depends upon temperature. At normal room temperature, 21-24C, the fermentation will be complete within 10-12 days. At 18-20C, it can take up to 16-18 days. At 24-28C, it may be finished in 8-9 days. However, at temperatures above 28C, it may ferment too quickly which may result in less carbonation than desired.

5.     How can I tell when my beer is finished?

You’ll know it’s ready when you lift the bottle (do not shake or tilt) up to a light source and look through it. It should look almost as clear as when you bought it. If it is still cloudy it is not done. Leave it another day or two and check again.

6.     How do I store my finished beer and long can I store it?

Always store the bottle upright.

If you do not intend to drink your beer when it is finished, you can continue storing it at room temperature for up to 3 months. Some of our customers have told us the longer you wait, the better it tastes.

If you want to drink it, refrigerate it upright for at least 12 hours or 2 hours in the freezer. Continuing to store finished beer at room temperature ensures it will be fully fermented. Do not store unfinished beer in the refrigerator for longer than 3 months.

7.     Is home brewing legal in Canada?

Yes. Home brewing and wine making is legal in Canada. Distilling hard liquor is not legal.

8.     Will my beer go flat if I don't drink the whole bottle?

We recommend consuming each bottle within 3 days after opening. The less beer remaining in the bottle, the faster it will go flat, not unlike any other carbonated beverage.

9.  What determines the alcohol percentage of Mister Beer Bottle Brew?

The percentage of alcohol is predetermined by the amount of fermentable sugar dissolved. It is not dependent on the amount of yeast added. We strongly recommend to not add any additional sugar, molasses, honey or maple syrup, which can cause extreme fermentation and potentially cause the bottle to explode.

10.  What is the best way to serve Mister Beer Bottle Brew?

Avoid tilting the bottle quickly when pouring. This helps to not disturb the yeast sediment. If you pour multiple glasses, don't tilt the bottle all the way back between glasses. Best is to pour a few big glasses instead of many small ones. A beer pitcher is ideal for parties.

11.  Why is there no expiry date on the bottle?

The date on the bottle is the production date, not the expiry date. The product in the bottle can be stored up to 12 months before fermenting. However, the yeast should be added within 5 months. If the production date on your bottle is more than 5 months ago, let us know and we’ll mail you a free yeast pill.

12.  What is the brown looking ring inside the neck of the bottle?

We know it doesn't look very pretty, but the ring is created during fermentation by proteins that are present in beer. It's totally natural and will not affect the flavour or quality of your beer.

13.  Is the Brewer's yeast sediment at the bottom of the bottle safe?

Brewer's yeast is not only safe, it’s also a rich natural source of B group vitamins and contains a range of amino acids, minerals and trace elements. Try mixing it with the last glass you pour out of the bottle. It will make the beer very cloudy, but the texture will be very creamy and you will benefit from all of the rich vitamins and minerals.

14.  Why is the sugar content on the nutritional facts table so high?

This is the level of natural sugar from the malt used during brewing and represents the level at point of purchase. During fermentation, approximately 80% of the sugar is converted to alcohol.
